The group fitness industry is constantly evolving and adapting to new trends and technologies. Only a few years ago it felt like live fitness events were dead and now they are well and truly BACK and booming! How do you keep on top of the latest trends?
Here are some of the top trends and predictions for the future of group fitness:
- Virtual classes: With the rise of technology, virtual group fitness classes have become more popular. These classes can be accessed from anywhere, making it easier for people to work out on their own schedules. Since the lockdown I believe these will remain as popular as ever even with live classes returning.
- Wearable technology: Wearable technology, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, are becoming more popular and can provide valuable data to help individuals track their progress and set goals.
- Personalised workouts: With the help of technology, personalised workouts are becoming more accessible. Using data from wearable technology and other sources, workouts can be tailored to an individual’s fitness level, goals, and preferences.
- Mind-body workouts: Mind-body workouts, such as yoga and Pilates, are becoming increasingly popular as people look for ways to reduce stress and improve their mental health PLUS they are for everyone!
- Functional fitness: Functional fitness, which focuses on movements that mimic real-life activities, is becoming more popular as people look for ways to improve their overall fitness and prevent injury. This is to include mobility workouts which you will see so many of on TikTok now.
- Recovery-focused workouts: Recovery-focused workouts, such as stretching and foam rolling, are becoming more popular as people recognise the importance of recovery in their overall fitness routine.
- Social media fitness challenges: Social media challenges, such as the 30-day squat challenge or plank challenge, are becoming more popular as people look for ways to stay motivated and accountable in their fitness journey and to stay engaged with the online community.
- Live events are making a comeback following the lockdown as people want to socialise and reconnect with their community!
As the industry continues to evolve, it’s important for group fitness instructors to stay up to date on the latest trends and technologies to provide the best possible experience for their participants. Make sure you keep up to date with Youtube, TiK Tok, attending other live classes around you and reading up!
