Wrist Pain in Pilates By TOM WALDRON
It can be quite common that individuals experience discomfort or pain at their wrists during four point kneeling exercises.
This can be due to pathologies at the wrist such as a fracture to the carpal bones or carpal tunnel syndrome
Assuming there aren’t any pathologies at the wrist (if there are you may want to avoid four point kneeling exercises until their symptoms improve), here are some helpful ways to reduce or eliminate wrist discomfort…
Typically individuals can place excessive weight through the medial part of the hand/wrist (radius to carpal bones articulation). If this is the case, coaching your students to distribute their body weight to the lateral ‘pad’ of their hand and the space between the ulna and pisiform bone can be incredibly helpful in reducing wrist discomfort.
Evenly sharing the load throughout the WHOLE of the hand can also improve the stability and control at the trunk during upper extremity weight bearing exercises ✔️
Movement is medicine.
*Tom Waldron will be guest lecturing on our Level 4 Pilates Qualification and we are so excited he will be presenting for Choreographytogo on this course*
*Course Ideas To Attract New Clients*
Fitness Pilates For Healthy Backs & Better Posture is a 6 week course you may wish to add to your timetable as a live class or as a an online programme. Going right back to basics with FP foundational movements and then building on week by week slowly focusing on technique and alignment.
You could film 20 minute exercise videos that clients can do at home and deliver this is a Facebook group or on your membership site.
FP for Healthy Backs is not a programme for people with diagnosed back problems who require physio, but for clients that sit a lot and experience non specific back pain and back tightness and want to improve strength, mobility, and appearance.
You could also approach local businesses and offer 30 minutes “in office” sessions.
