  • Emily and Sam’s Santa Dash Guest blog

Today we are featuring in our Guest blog the wonderful Sam from our FITPRO SUPPORTERS GROUP!

“Rachel Holmes Thank you so much from bottom of my heart for giving me and the business the self belief that you can achieve anything ❤️
Today was biggest thing socially for the business 400 Santa’s was with us and we loved every minute xx
    You are one inspirational lady”

Firstly let’s introduce ourselves, we’re Emily & Sam from E.L. Fitness, a small business with just the 2 of us running the show.  We absolutely love what we do and we’re always on the look out for new ideas and the next challenge.  It keeps us on our toes and feeling creative and excited about what’s next.

Last weekend we fulfilled a dream of ours.   With both of us being veterans of many events and having experienced many a warm up, we’ve always wanted to be the ones on that stage warming up a crew of runners. I don’t think we could have picked a better event for our debut, what an amazing experience.

We’d heard about the local Santa dash just a couple of weeks before and presumed it would all be organised and we were too late, but there’s never any harm in asking. A chance email to the fundraising team lead to us being on stage in front of 400 Santa’s on a Sunday in the middle of Windsor! The biggest lesson we’ve learnt from this whole scenario is if you don’t ask you don’t get!   The worst they can say is no so go ahead and send that email or drop them that text.  It turns out the fundraising team were in a panic as their warm up act had pulled out at the last minute, so along came 2 excited Elves to do the job!

The Alexander Devine children’s hospice is a specialist facility local to us, they care for terminally ill children and support families during their hardest days.  Both being mums ourselves we have tried to help where we could over the last couple of years, and have previously done some sports days for the siblings of the children being cared for.  The sports days are always the highlight of our calendar, we have so much fun and the children are always such an inspiration.

The Santa Dash is one of the biggest events in their calendar and now we know why! Always well attended by families, friends, locals and dogs, the atmosphere is electric and you can feel the support spilling out for this hugely important organisation, even the rain didn’t put people off!  We did a quick practice run in Emily’s lounge the day before and felt much more calm and prepared.  We chose a great Christmas track, wrote a plan but kept it simple, and off we went out onto that stage.  Once the music kicked in and Emily started her star jumps the nerves disappeared and we both absolutely loved every minute.  Our motto is always “just be us, we’re enough just as we are” and that’s exactly what we did.

Whatever we do, we always have a crew who came along to support both the charity and our small business, it doesn’t go unnoticed and we appreciate it so much.  We think we smashed it and we all had great fun in the process. Over £26,000 was raised for the Alexander Devine children’s hospice which is just an amazingly fabulous amount and the whole reason why we do what we do. Believe in yourself, just be yourself, you are enough just as you are.
