Course Overview
The Fitness Pilates Reformer course is designed to help Fitness Pilates instructors expand their knowledge and skills to incorporate Reformer-based exercises into their teaching. This course blends the principles of Fitness Pilates with the functionality and versatility of the Reformer, enabling instructors to deliver dynamic, results-driven classes to a broad range of participants.
Course Aims
- To provide instructors with the skills and knowledge to teach safe and effective Fitness Pilates-based Reformer exercises.
- To ensure a thorough understanding of Reformer equipment, its setup, and practical applications.
- To introduce modifications and progressions for different fitness levels and abilities.
- To enable instructors to integrate modern, functional movement patterns with Fitness Pilates exercises on the Reformer.
Course Structure
The course is a combination of theory and practical application, delivered through online modules. Learners must attend Reformer classes online or Face to face and log 20
hours of practice.
Part 1: Introduction to the Reformer
- History and Evolution of the Pilates Reformer
Understand the origin of Reformer Pilates and its development into modern-day practice. - Equipment Overview
Familiarisation with Reformer parts and setup: springs, foot bar, carriage, straps, and safety considerations. - Benefits of Reformer Training
How Reformer Pilates differs from mat-based Pilates, and its specific benefits for strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination.
Part 2: Fitness Pilates Principles Applied to the Reformer
- Core Principles of Fitness Pilates
Review of breathing, alignment, centring, control, precision, and flow in Fitness Pilates and how they translate to Reformer work. - Functional Movement and Reformer
How to adapt traditional Fitness Pilates movements for the Reformer.
Part 3: Reformer Exercise Library
- Basic to Intermediate Reformer Exercises
Learn a wide range of exercises focusing on different muscle groups:- Warm Up & Prep Sequences & Exercises

- Progressions and Modifications

Part 5: Teaching Techniques and Cueing

Part 6: Safety and Risk Management

Guidelines for ensuring participant safety, correct use of equipment, and injury prevention.
Part 7: Assessment and Evaluation
- Written Assessment
Plan and document 3 x 45 minute Beginners Fitness Pilates Reformer Class Week 1, Week 4 and Week 8. - Answer Multiple Choice Questions
- Log 20 hours of Practice – You will be able to take part in ZOOM Reformer classes Live or On Demand.
- Film a video teaching.
Pre Requisites
Must hold Fitness Pilates or Level 3 Pilates Qualification
Insurance.
Upon passing this course you will be able to gain insurance with FITPRO.
We are currently going through the endorsement criteria with EMDUK.
