  • Instructor Newsletter 29th September 2011

I’ve been traveling and presenting, yet again this week, on International Aerobic Week over in Playitas Fueteventura. Meeting new people is always a highlight for me whenever I present, and the event attracted some famous media faces from the UK as well as a fantastic and enthusiastic Group from Sweden.  I also got the chance to hangout with Mr Vibe Cycle himself Delvin Clarke.

    Choreographytogo News and Updates

As I reported last week, the C2go website is undergoing massive changes in how the site is built and your videos and downloads are viewed. We have updated most of the accounts now (there are 33,000 users so it’s a huge job) but if you ALL can log in and check your choreography and accounts are working that would help us so much.

If you do log in and find your choreography isn’t there, don’t panic, please email Lesley@Choreographytogo.com and we will be able to activate your account.

At the moment we are having a brand new media player built into the system so you will be able to view and download videos much faster; this should come on line in the next few days. So, again if you are finding downloading is slow this will be rectified very soon.

Please bear with us whilst the changes are being made and I am confident that once all is complete the new C2GO site will be awesome.

A more mindful approach to teaching by Jayne Nicholls

Over the years of being on the road, I notice that the questions arising from a new way of teaching are always – ‘but what if someone can’t’. It seems that instructors need to prepare themselves for the very worst and give more consideration to helping those who cannot instead of those who can.

In walking into a situation and perceiving that the group cannot or might not be able to do things, further spending time verbally and physically pre empting this, we are simply presuming and wasting time that could be spent dealing with what is actually happening.

If we open our eyes, see what happens in front of us and react to the situation that presents itself, we can begin to make real life and valuable changes to our clients.

Most people can and will if helped perform extremely well. This may not be pretty but it deserves the lion’s share of our consideration.

While it is great to be prepared for class, as an advanced instructor we work from a template that can and will change if it needs to. The actual content of our classes should be determined by what we saw last time, what we see and hear today and finally by what the future goals of the client are.

www.groupxtraining.com  jayne is presenting the ‘I am Yoga’ Tour in Guildford on Sunday.

Are your clients cooking on gas? Jill Gardner – Hate it? Change it!

When going for weight loss most people simply want a protocol to follow.  In other words they want clear instructions to take them from A to B so they don’t have to think about it.
Diets and diet books can often fit into this category.  Is this part of the reason why so many people fail to reach their goals or why they don’t succeed with their new regimes?  Follow me on facebook and let me know your thoughts!
I personally believe that this ‘fix me’ mindset needs to change.  We need to be moving away from giving out ‘solutions’ in a box type packages.  There is a lot more to it than this.  We should be encouraging our members and clients to take ownership of their lifestyle change.  How can they learn for themselves if they know they can always pick up the next ‘diet’ book or attend the next ‘fix me in 4 weeks’ boot camp?

It is my belief that we should be teaching a process not a protocol.  We should be teaching people to learn all the tools and be the master of their new lifestyle from start to forever.  They learn, they practise, they master!
How many times have I been asked ‘Jill, if you gave me an exact food plan to follow I could lose weight no problem!’ or ‘Just tell me what to eat’.
I decided that most of my clients were missing an important part of their toolbox.  I was already giving them great classes and workouts.  I was giving them great nutritional plans to follow.  But they still wanted everything on a plate!  So I decided I needed to help them put their own stuff on a plate!

Through my networking locally I linked up with a cookery school (a college or school may work also) and got acquainted with the chefs.  I spoke about my desire to run cookery courses aimed at fat loss.  The school were already keen to run ‘healthy cookery’ courses but weren’t sure how to get into this target audience.  This is where I came in.  We agreed upon the content of our first course and booked a date and then it was then up to me to sell it and promote it to my clients and tribes.
Thanks to my growing following both locally and on social media, the first course was sold out within days of launching.  It was a massive success and my clients are now learning more about cooking and being creative with their ingredients.  Best of all we all had a fabulous evening outside of the usual sweaty exercise classes.  Furthermore I am now on the cookery schools mailing list and my network is continuing to expand.  There is so much scope to develop these types of courses to match your target audience and the problems that they face – be it menopause, busy lives, kids and families, gluten free or body building!

“What a fantastic evening last night at The Inspired Gourmet Cookery School! Thank you for arranging this event Jill, it certainly was inspiring!! It’s amazing to learn how to cook & enjoy sumptuous food whilst still burning fat…a total revolution! P.S. the chefs were amazing and great hosts!”
This will now be part of my regular offering to all my clients and class members on a regular basis.  They now have another set of tools to help them achieve lifelong success and will have the skills to cook the right foods for the rest of their lives.  They will quite literally be ‘cooking on gas’!

    Sandwich anyone? Sally Ghafoor

Yesterday whilst visiting an older relative – we were discussing nutrition today.  She placed in front of me cheese and cucumber sandwiches (which used to be my favorite) so I spoke about the need to drop wheat from today’s diet and how eating organic was the way to go, to which she replied – “but I ate bread etc from a young age and I am ok”. To this I smiled. It’s a common misconception see, what we eat today is nothing like our grandparents ate as children.

The wheat we eat today is full of gluten – the stuff that makes it sticky; in fact this stuff is often used as a binding agent for postage stamps yum – not. The wheat we consume today is actually bio engineered to contain 90% more gluten than our grandparents ate, and there is less than half the protein in our wheat today versus 50 years ago. Also while on the subject of nutritional value according to a Rutgers university study it now takes 19 ears of corn to equal the nutritional value of one ear of corn grown in the 1940’s!

It’s crazy, the soil our crops is grown in is so depleted that it is entirely dependant on the chemical fertilizers it is given to grow, so it becomes devoid of the essential minerals we need as humans!

So what happens when we eat wheat – well when you consume wheat, the gluten in it swells in your intestinal tract, often constipating you. Then the immune system is activated to attack that very part of the lining of the intestinal tract, causing bloating, wind, maybe diarrhea and nausea – these symptoms should alert you to the fact that your body is rejecting the food you’re putting into it. And also the immune system is not doing its normal job of protecting you from viruses – it’s trying to protect you from what you’re eating, so you’re getting sick easier.

Also, when consumed, wheat is more easily transferred to blood sugar in the body than any other carbohydrate. Dr William Davis, a preventative cardiologist, says “two slices of whole wheat bread increase blood sugar to a higher level than a candy bar does. And then, after about two hours, your blood sugar plunges and you get shaky, your brain feels foggy, you’re hungry. So let’s say you have an English muffin for breakfast. Two hours later you’re starving, so you have a handful of crackers, and then some potato chips, and your blood sugar rises again. That cycle of highs and lows just keeps going throughout the day, so you’re constantly feeling hungry and constantly eating. Dieticians have responded to this by advising that we graze throughout the day, which is just nonsense. If you eliminate wheat from your diet, you’re no longer hungry between meals because you’ve stopped that cycle. You’ve cut out the appetite stimulant, and consequently you lose weight very quickly. I’ve seen this with thousands of patients” For the full interview go here www.gethealthsavvy.co.uk

So, any one for a sandwich???

(and I know you are so wanting to know – did I eat the sandwiches? Out of respect for my elderly relative yes, I did, but I have had stomach cramps for 2 days now… so much so I had to cancel a class.)

Confidence and the right mind set – Celebrity Trainer
    Christianne Wolf

    Hi Guys,
I am really excited to write for Rachel’s newsletter again, and to offer you valuable information that I have been gathering in the fitness industry for the last 15 years!

I am Christianne Wolff and I am a celebrity personal trainer!

I am author of 10 step celebrity trainer blue print, and am here to tell you how to bag a celebrity client, gain confidence to exude national press and stardom and ultimately live the life style you have dreamed of with a little of my ground work.

Do you want to train celebrities on films sets?
Do you want to gain sponsorships to massively raise your profile and income?
Do you want to write articles for the national press?

If the answer is yes! then read on, it’s a lot easier than you think!

I am so excited to let you in on my formula of what has been tried and tested by me for years and years.

So, how do you I know all this and what celebrities have I trained?

Well, I have been in the fitness industry since 1996, and since then I have gained sponsorships, been published in national press with over 50 articles, broadcasted on national tv and radio, and trained many celebrities and high profile clients including Pierce Brosnan and Dougray Scott.

What sort of lifestyle has that offered me?

It’s given me a very flexible and exciting lifestyle. I’ve been flown all over the world training people in beautiful, luxurious locations, gone to amazing celebrity and film parties, been paid a high salary for low hours, and I’ve received many, many freebees. I now own and run The Chilterns most prestigious personal training gym.

So, why would you want to train celebrities?

Ultimately, when you train a celebrity it is a huge springboard for your career. Suddenly everyone wants to train with you, you can command a much higher rate of pay, you will be offered work rather than having to go and find it, people will source you out. You will be asked to feature in the national press and your ability to propel your career is enormous.

If you then want to bring out a book, or new fitness concept, or DVD or sell a product you can get celebrity a endorsement or just by the very fact you train a celebrity raises your awareness and credibility ten fold. So, if you want to make money selling a product and approach the press they will write about you if you are linked to a celebrity- getting into the press otherwise can be impossible and could cost you a fortune in advertising. Ultimately you will earn a lot more money, and could reach the sky with your earning potential and work a lot less hours. You could also be offered sponsorships and will have companies begging you to wear or try their products for free.

So, how do you do it?

Well, firstly you need to have the confidence to raise your level to this status.
You need to distinguish yourself from the Jo Bloggs personal trainer and without confidence you will not do that.
As a celebrity trainer you will have to have an air of confidence about you and your abilities in your field. Fear is sniffed at a mile away, especially by celebrities. They need to have an instant appreciation of you and this can take some practice but ultimately IS VERY ACHEIVABLE!
To begin your quest of confidence at the very least you need your basic qualifications, good knowledge at what you do and I would say at least 1 year’s experience working in the fitness industry.
For me, personally, working in a health club, although poorly paid, gave me priceless experience as a personal trainer-(as well as free training)  as I watched how other trainers handled their clients, what physical results worked with what regime, but more than anything I watched how trainers used their language and their confidence skills to make their client feel like this will truly work for them. The trainers that were the most successful could walk the walk and talk the talk, they were salesmen, so you need to be self assured, confident in your knowledge, and not fazed by anyone, even if it’s the Prince of Brunei or Brad Pitt.
Personally, I studied metaphysics, NLP, life coaching, and meditation, which all work on the power of positive thought.
Picturing yourself as the person who is confident, successful and admired can be a very powerful tool. And you can use this in visualizations.

If you can believe it, you can achieve it. Our conscious mind accounts for about 10% of our functioning, the other 90% of your mind controls the rest of you!

But before you do that you need to understand what your self limiting beliefs are. These are what you believe you should do, or be, your expectations about yourself.
Do you have any beliefs that could act as self sabotage for your celebrity trainer status?

Really think about this. Imagine that you have your favorite celebrity standing in front of you. You are shaking their hand and they are agreeing to hiring you as a trainer, you sign the contract, they offer you a fantastic sum of money and you start training them. Now, really think about every stage in this fantasy. Were you uncomfortable with any of the stages, maybe you could not even imagine shaking their hand, or maybe you got to the end and received the money but then could not train them.

If any part of that was negative, write down why?

What is the conflict that is holding you back?

What limiting beliefs do you have about yourself that is impeding your progress?

This is important to really grasp before anything else as if you do not confront your limiting beliefs now they will come back in the future to sabotage your success.

So, with the information you have collected about what your limiting beliefs are, you should then write down your goals of what you want to achieve in your business. This can be a 1 year, 5 year, or 6 month plan, but make it concise and easy to visualize.
In my 10 step manual on celebrity trainer coach.com I go into this in much more detail, where I have 5 steps to really boost your confidence and discard negativity.
This is really fascinating and is a great plan to unravel any negative though pattern.

If you want to hear more, why not download my free 30minute CD on www.celebritytrainercoach.com

At my seminar at Pinewood studios I get my students to walk around the amazing film sets and really absorb the vibe like they are already training celebrities there!

Next week I reveal how to market yourself to attract celebrities!

Remember, there is a celebrity trainer in all of us!

Antigravity ® Yoga by Jo Dandridge

Antigravity ® Yoga is about to take the UK by storm! The very first UK Antigravity ® Yoga Studio opens its doors in October, and will also be one of the UK’s Training Headquarters for people wishing to train as an AGY Instructor. ‘The Fitness Hangout’ will be in Godalming, Surrey and run by Jo Dandridge, who will also be teaching Pole Fitness and Zumba classes in the studio.
AntiGravity Yoga is a fusion of fitness techniques which have been modified and enhanced to fit the yoga mold.  It utilises aspects of traditional yoga, Pilates, calisthenics, dance, and gymnastics.  AntiGravity Yoga is designed to increase one’s overall heath and physical agility while having fun and creating beauty.  AntiGravity Yoga is a complete total body workout that strengthens core and increases overall agility. The utilisation of the AntiGravity Hammock allows overworked muscles to relax as secondary muscles take over to lengthen and strengthen.   AntiGravity Yoga also helps you to get you in shape while realigning you from the compression of gravity.  AntiGravity Yoga takes into consideration both meanings of the word — working to manipulate physics while staying lighthearted.

AntiGravity Inc. was founded in 1991 by Christopher Harrison in NYC as an acrobatic performance company with the mission of merging athletics and artistry. Evolving upward, the AntiGravity® Hammock was originally developed as an aerial performance apparatus by Mr. Harrison in 1999. Aerial silks were new to aerial arts and had only been used previously in the same format that one would utilize a Spanish Web (aerial rope). Not being a circus performer, Christopher didn’t quite know how to use it so he took the aerial silk and looped it into a hammock, then worked with his company members to create a wholly new movement vocabulary on the apparatus. They performed their new aerial art form all over the world and in many high-profile events. He quickly discovered the decompression benefits for the spine through zero-compression inversions.

For Instructors interested in the Antigravity ® Yoga Instructor training, the comprehensive course curriculum is a thorough, well-tested suspension fitness technique. As the originators in the genre, it is the only aerial yoga program approved by governing fitness organizations AFAA and ACE, both offer continuing education credits, and soon to be CYQ Accredited (pending).  For information on the Instructor Training please contact Jo Dandridge thefitnesshangout@hotmail.co.uk www.thefitnesshangout.co.uk
Antigravity Yoga is a copyrighted and licensed programme. If you are a studio wishing to find out more about Antigravity ® Yoga Licensing please contact info@antigravityyoga.co.uk
