WELL DONE to Jackie on Passing your Level 4 Pilates Matwork Qualification with Choreographytogo

🥳🥳WELL DONE to Jackie on Passing your Level 4 Pilates Matwork Qualification:

“Hi everyone! My name is Jackie and I’ve been asked to share my experience doing the Level 4 Pilates certification course with the lovely Kelly and Tom.

To put things in context, I am 64 years old and retired from teaching 7 years ago. I treated myself to the Stage 3 Mat-based Pilates certification for my 60th birthday and I have been teaching 4-5 classes in the community for the last 3 years.

Living in NI, we do not have the same range of courses available on the mainland, so when we went into lockdown, I decided to take advantage of the online courses offered by Choreographytogo. I did the Fitness Pilates certification and when the Level 4 course came up, I decided to challenge myself and go for it.

My initial thought on the first morning of the online training weekend in June was ‘Are you insane?’ as I listened to a group of experienced instructors asking questions and discussing the bio-mechanical material which Tom was delivering while I tried to make myself as inconspicuous as possible. However, once we were put into breakout rooms and I got the opportunity to interact with the other members, I realised we were all in the same boat and we had some interesting chats about the tasks we were asked to do. The rest of the weekend was a whirlwind of information and practical work with Kelly and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Needless to say, the real work started once we finished that weekend. Since practical classes were out of the question at this stage, Kelly suggested that we tackle the Ante and Post Natal Module which I was dreading since it is an area I have no experience in at all. However, the Active IQ training materials were excellent and with the ever-patient Kelly responding to my endless queries, I was able to submit Modules 4&5 in August.

The remainder of the course was definitely challenging and if it hadn’t been for the situation we found ourselves in, I don’t know how I would have kept myself motivated as I had information all over the place and my living room looked like a paper storm – in addition, my ability to concentrate on things has definitely not improved with age!

However, I was determined to get it completed by Christmas so I tackled the 1-1 case study first after coercing my long-suffering sister to be my client – thanks L! The class practical assessment was very well-timed as I filmed it the week before our centres closed again and luckily it was good enough to satisfy all the necessary criteria – have to admit that trying to walk around and observe even a small group while remembering to keep the correct social distancing measures was a challenge in itself.

After ironing out a few bits and pieces which needed tweaking, I submitted the completed LAP on 17 November and on 2 December Kelly put me out of my misery and told me she had signed it off and was submitting it for verification. My hard work and determination paid off when my certificate arrived yesterday (20 January).

I cannot thank Kelly and Tom enough for the work they put into the delivery of the training weekend which started our journey – after that, Kelly proved to have the patience of a saint as she dealt quickly and efficiently with all my ‘queries’ – I’m sure her heart sank every time she saw my name on an email entitled ‘Just another query’.

I would encourage anyone who wants to challenge their knowledge of Pilates mat work to consider this course – it is damned hard work and very challenging but it was worth all the time and effort to feel that tremendous sense of achievement when you finally hand your completed LAP in – waiting to hear if it passed is rather nerve-wracking but the team are there to give you the best chance of success.

Learning is a lifelong endeavour and this course has inspired me to explore other courses to take my knowledge and experience into new areas. Thank you, team – you haven’t seen the last of me yet!”
